telnet is insecure by design, and can expose your password
(and personal data) to the internet.
Why do I need to do this?
Uses for a terminal at the TCC include reading email with a
console program and running programs on the TCC machines. There
is no need to do this for web browsing or email (if you use the
webmail system, or your
own reader).
