Skills required for maintaining the people file:
Knowledge of the emacs text editor.
Understanding of XML: what tagged files look like.
Ability to use the RCS revision control system, preferably from within emacs.
Knowledge of the psgml-emacs package under emacs. This package is documented locally in the TCC handout ``How to write documentation with DocBook 4.1,'' or see the online version of this document at http://www.nmt.edu/tcc/help/pubs/docbook/
To edit the people.xml file:
Login under Unix or Linux.
cd to the working directory, /u/www/docs/tcc/help/know.
Run emacs on file people.xml.
Use C-x C-q to check the file out under RCS.
Type C-c C-p to parse the DTD and enable syntax coloring of the XML elements.
Use the keystrokes described in the reference quoted above to add, modify, or remove elements.
Use C-x C-q to check the file back in under RCS.
