XSLT example: recipes

Here is an example showing an XSLT script that converts an XML file to web form.

This project encodes recipes using XML tags. An XSL tool named xsltproc is used to convert the recipes into HTML. Pieces of the project include:

• The DTD (Document Type Definition) that describes how recipe documents are tagged. See Constructing a document type definition (DTD) for XML for more on DTDs.
• An XSL script that converts an XML-encoded recipe file to HTML. See the XSLT Reference for an explanation of XSLT.
• The Makefile that runs the XSL script on each recipe.
• Here are several recipes as rendered into HTML:
  • Hunan Multi-spiced Chicken, a cold chicken salad
  • Don-don noodles, a cold Szechwan street vendor food
  • Rogan josh, an Indian recipe for lamb in fragrant garlic cream sauce
  • Hunkar begendi, a Turkish eggplant cream.
  • Lamb saag, an Indian recipe for lamb in spinach cream
  • Butter chicken, an Indian recipe from the Amber restaurant in Mountain View, CA
  • Mapo Doufu, a classic Szechwan tofu dish.
  • Vindaloo, an Indian meat recipe from Goa.
