Transferring files from the TCC to your Linux system
|
|
As of January 2008, the TCC no longer permits file transfers
using ftp (File Transfer Protocol). This protocol
is not secure for the transfer of sensitive information.
Use the sftp protocol, which is password-protected
and encrypted.
To transfer files from your Tech Computer Center account to
your Linux or Unix system, follow these steps.
- If you have a lot of files to transfer, first create an
archive file that combines into a single file all the files
you want to transfer. See `Making archive files in Linux'.
- To transfer your files and/or archives, see
`Using scp to transfer files in Linux'.
- If you used an archive file, see `Extracting archive files in Linux'.
