File restore: Copying files from removable media in Linux

Follow this procedure to transfer files from removable media such as CD-ROM, DVD, or Flash drive to your Tech Computer Center account.

1. Log in to any TCC workstation under Linux.
2. Insert the removable medium.
   • For a CD-ROM:

     gnome-mount -d /dev/device
     

     The contents will appear in directory /media, in a subdirectory whose name is taken from the CD-ROM.
   • For a flash drive, shortly after you plug it in to the USB jack, the contents will appear in directory /media/disk.
3. Use the regular Linux cp command to copy the files to locations inside your TCC account.
4. To unmount:
   • For a CD-ROM:

     gnome-mount -u -d /dev/device
     

   • For a Flash drive, just remove the drive from the USB jack.
