VPN (Virtual Private Network) with MacOS X Panther (10.3)

These instructions apply to using VPN with Mac OS X Panther (10.3).

1. Setting up DHCP is necessary only if you are connecting to a TCC port or a TCC wireless router.
2. Creating a VPN connection

How to enable DHCP

1. Choose System Preferences... from the Apple menu.
2. Click the Network icon under "Internet & Network."
3. If the padlock icon is locked, click it and authenticate.
4. Select Built-in Ethernet or Airport, whichever you are using, and click the Configure... button.
5. Click the TCP/IP tab and choose Using DHCP from the Configure IPv4: selection menu.
6. Enter 129.138.4.138 and 129.138.250.10 in the DNS Servers: text box.
7. Enter nmt.edu in the Search Domains: text box.
8. Click the Apply Now button and close System Preferences.

1. Navigate to /Applications in the Finder and run the Internet Connect application.
2. Click on the VPN icon.
3. Select PPTP in the dialogue box and click the Continue button.
4. Enter 129.138.4.253 in the Server address: text box.
5. Enter your TCC account name in the Account Name: text box, and your TCC account password in the Password: text box.
6. Select Edit Configurations... from the Configuration: selection menu.
7. Save your new connection as TCC when prompted by the dialogue box.
8. In the next dialogue box, choose Maximum (128-bit only) in the Encryption: selection menu, and click the OK button.
9. Leave the VPN dialogue open, but choose System Preferences... from the Apple menu.
10. Click the Network icon under Internet & Network.
11. If the padlock icon is locked, click it and authenticate.
12. Select VPN (PPTP) and click the Configure... button.
13. Enter 129.138.4.138 and 129.138.250.10 in the DNS Servers: text box.
14. Enter nmt.edu in the Search Domains: text box.
15. Click the Apply Now button and close System Preferences.
16. You may now click the Connect button in the VPN dialogue box to connect to the VPN. You may also connect and disconnect from the new VPN icon in the menu bar.
