TCC RedHat FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
|
|
Before August 2003, our Linux workstations ran a Slackware
release of Linux. To improve service and maintainability, we have
changed to a Red Hat Linux release. This will impact Linux
users in a number of ways. Here are some frequently asked
questions:
- I get `JAVA_HOME is not defined correctly. We cannot execute
/usr/local/bin/java'.
- Change the definition of JAVA_HOME in your .bashrc
or .cshrc to "/usr/jdk1.2".
- Why is the sort command not sorting things
in the correct order?
- Here's an advisory from the man page for sort:
*** WARNING *** The locale specified by the environment affects sort
order. Set LC_ALL=C to get the traditional sort order that uses native
byte values.
- Why do I get a `xxx not found' message when trying to run
an application?
- If you have been using a package but it is missing now,
please file a ticket at
http://www.nmt.edu/~ticket.
- Why doesn't the man command give me manual
pages any more?
- In your .bashrc or .cshrc file, change
the MANPATH to include /usr/share/man/.
