Using standard Unix software tools

Once you master the fundamentals of Unix, there are several major software tools that can make life easier for you on Unix systems.

If you are doing any work that requires frequent editing of any sort of text file, you may want to look at `What does a source code control system do?'
If you are maintaining groups of files, and some files are built by an automatic process, take a look at the online documentation for Gnu make, or the man page for make.
If you need privacy or secure transmission of files, see `Using PGP for privacy and encryption'
