pickfont: An X font-picking tool in Python

pickfont.py is a complete X application using Python and the Tkinter widgets. Its purpose is to allow you to try out different fonts for your Tkinter applications.

• If you have an account at the Tech Computer Center and access to a Linux workstation with the X Window system, start the program by typing:

          /u/www/docs/tcc/help/python/pickfont.py

• Operating instructions:
  • To pick a different font family, double-click on one of the family names in the list on the left side.
  • To change the font size, type a new size (in points) into the ``Size:'' entry, then press Enter or click on the ``Set size'' button.
  • Use the ``Weight'' or ``Slant'' radiobuttons to turn boldface and italic attributes on or off.
  • Sample text is shown in the text widget. You can edit this text if you like.
  • The actual font attributes currently in use are shown below the text widget.

• The application uses two locally written compound Tkinter widgets:
  • DropDown, a drop-down menu
  • ScrolledList, a listbox with a vertical scrollbar
