Working with images and graphics

Tools for working with images and graphics include:

• xfig, a drawing program, is good for producing simple figures and diagrams. See Using xfig to draw pictures.

• xv is a program for viewing, converting, and modifying image files such as GIF and JPG files. There is no online documentation at present, but the Help Desk has printed documentation available for checkout.
• gimp is a program for image editing and creation, roughly like Photoshop.
