Also called ``news,'' USENET is the world's largest bulletin board system. Analogous to a physical bulletin board, USENET has several thousand newsgroups for specific subjects of interests to users of the Internet. The groups have many purposes: technical discussions, current events, hobbies, and cultural exchanges, to name only a few. To access USENET, you will need a ``newsreader'' program such as trn. See newsgroup news.announce.newusers for pointers on using USENET.
