Tech Computer Center logo
A program that controls all activity taking place on a computer system. Examples of operating systems are Unix, OS/2, and MS-DOS. Typical functions include: storing and retrieving files; starting and stopping user programs; allocating and controlling I/O devices; and executing user commands.
