Direct translation of TeX to PDF

If the end result of your TeX document is a PDF document, you can translate the document directly in one step:

• To process a plain TeX document, use the pdftex command instead of the tex command.
• For LaTeX documents, use the pdflatex command.
• See the man pages for pdftex and pdflatex for command line options.
