Selecting a word processor or typesetting system
|
|
Here are some of our available
word processors and
typesetting systems:
Microsoft word processors
For conversion of Microsoft Office 2003 to Office 2007, see Top
migration issues in the 2007 Office System.
For conversion of Microsoft Office 2000 to Office 2003, see
Microsoft Office 2000
to Microsoft Office 2003 Migration Issues [PDF, 80 pp.]
Linux word processors
- There is an open-source Linux equivalent of MS Word.
From any Linux workstation, pull down the Start menu and select
Office, then Word
Processor.
- DocBook allows you to create documents and build both Web
and print versions automatically. See the manual,
Writing documents with DocBook-XML
[HTML version]
[PDF
version, 17 pp.].
- The
TeX typesetting system
is excellent for high-quality typesetting, especially
math and tables. Among its advantages: it is available
on virtually any type of computer, and quite efficient,
requiring modest amounts of memory, and recompiling
documents quickly.
Disadvantages: some time is required to learn the basics,
and it does not have a
WYSIWYG interface.
- If you have a file in .pdf format, on any TCC machine
you can view it with this command:
acroread yourfile.pdf
Next: EndNote: A bibliography tool
