5.1.   Setting schedules

We will have a meeting to set up the schedule. You must bring in your class schedule and be ready to get to work!

5.1.1.   Schedule objectives

When setting the Help Desk schedule the following objectives should be kept in mind.

  • Know how many hours each person will commit to.

  • Students cannot work more than 20 hours a week during the semester. (If they do submit a timesheet claiming more than twenty hours in a week Financial Aid may terminate their Work Authorization for the rest of the semester.)

  • Start and end shifts on quarter-hour marks whenever possible. This will allow time for people to get in the office and do whatever is needed before getting to (or after leaving) the Help Desk.

  • When possible schedule people for 3-hour shifts at the Help Desk (don't include the 15 minutes of office time before or after their shift in this limit). Adhere to 1.5 hour minimum and 4 hour maximum Help Desk shift limits.

  • Whenever possible, avoid scheduling new UCs for opening or closing shifts! Place experienced people on opening and closing shifts.

  • Opening shifts usually begin about 45 minutes before the TCC user areas open when outside rooms need to be opened for class (when the outside rooms don't need to be opened 15 minutes before is usually plenty). The closing shifts end about 15 minutes after the TCC user areas are scheduled to close.

  • Schedule office hours during the busiest hours of the day (10:00am to 6:00pm, approximately).
