6.20.   Formal reprimands

There are times when the normal forms of communication do not produce the results they should.   When those channels fail other methods of getting a person's attention are needed.   One method which is in place here is that of issuing a formal reprimand to an employee.   (Another less severe way is the “formal warning”.   Basically the same as the formal reprimand but it does not start the counter on three times and you're out.)

This type of action is usually the result of some essential job function being overlooked after repeated attempts to correct the situation.   A reprimand may also be issued after a critical job function (like managing room security) has been fouled-up even though the employee has only “messed-up” once or twice on it.

Mike Topliff explained to me some time ago how the reprimand system works.

  1. The first instance would result in him receiving official notice of the employee being reprimanded and why.   The reprimand then becomes part of the employee file that the Director keeps.

  2. The second instance would result in the Director discussing the issue with the employee.   Again the employee's file gets a copy of what went on.

  3. The third instance would result in termination of the employee's employment with the TCC.   The termination notice and the reason for termination also become part of the employee's file.
