MEDIA- CDs, floppys, zip disks, USB Drives, etc will be processed by the following procedure:
TCC employees will not open up any lost USB drives to view contents.
Lost USB drives will immediately be processed:
Tape a note around the drive with the following information if available:
Date found.
Location found (Building, Room, PC, etc).
Name or any writing on outside of drive.
Brand and size.
Any other "identifying" marks or characteristics(i.e. has a lanyard, etc)
Initials of UC that processed drive.
Log all of the above in the "Lost USB" notebook located in the locked cabinet at the Help Desk.
Place in "Lost USB" bin located in locked cabinet at Help Desk.
Send Email to Services Coordinator indicating a USB drive was found.
USB drives will be taken over to Campus Police the next business day at 8 am. This will also be logged in the "Lost USB" notebook.
Once the drives are processed the owner has until we turn them over to Campus Police to collect the lost drive from the TCC.
They must describe the drive in sufficient detail to prove ownership, without ever looking at the bin of lost drives.
The owner should be able to give you several details about the drive to prove ownership. Simply stating the color would not be enough, as this would be very to easy to guess on it's own. Unique markings, lanyards(color, logos, etc), color, brand, and size are some of the more obvious ways of identifying ownership.
Since we are not allowed to open up any drive to view the contents, this will not be an acceptable means of determining an owner.
Only TCC employees will be allowed to look in and handle the bin of lost drives.
People claiming a lost drive will only be shown the drive if sufficient detail is given to prove ownership. Only the drive in question, not the entire bin of lost drives.
LOST PAPERS - papers found by computers will be labeled (location/time/date) and put in the "UNKNOWN" bottom right printout box in Speare 14.
If an item has someone's name on, or in, it you can send them an email informing them that we have it. IF an item for which an email was sent is claimed, another email should be sent to tcc-uc informing us that it was claimed. Otherwise no email is necessary. If you send an email to a user, be sure to cc: it to tcc-uc.
Items (other than computer media) left for more than a few weeks will be taken to Campus Police for inclusion in their "Lost and Found".
The disk bin in the East Book Cabinet should be used for storing lost computer media (floppies, CDs, ZIP disks, …) These computer media should be tagged with a self-sticking paper dot on which you'd write the date found and the place the media was found.
