If you were lucky enough to have Topo USA 2.0 install correctly on your computer, here are some add-ins that you might consider downloading:
These overlays are useful for reference purposes. Frequently, reference will be made to a printed map. These overlays make the job easier to locate the printed map's coverage on the seamless Topo USA map display. The Aero Overlay makes coordinating air resources with ground resources easier when either Topo USA 2.0 or a printed map is used for planning purposes.
Installation
When Topo USA 2.0 installs, it asks you where to create a folder
named \Delorme (the default folder is C:\Delorme). In this folder
is another folder, containing several other folders. Download any
of these overlay files into a temporary folder and unzip the
overlays into your C:\Delorme\DelormeDocs\Draw folder.
Using the Overlays
To use any of the overlays, launch Topo USA 2.0, then click the
Draw tab, then click the 'File' button. Select the overlay from
the file list, and click the 'Open' button, then click 'Done' to
return to the drawing tools.
Map names and CAP grid numbers will be displayed as an array of named map pins. Each pin marks the geographic center of the printed map. The overlays are best displayed at detail level 8-0 through 8-7, with map grids selected under the Prefs tab. Other detail levels do not have map grids falling on 7.5 minute intervals, making the appearance of the map pins awkward.
Notes:
Topo USA 2.0 really works best on a fast machine with a graphics
accelerator card, even if only 2-D renderings will be used. The
display's color setting should be increased to Hi-color (16-bit)
color. That's 65,536 colors, NOT 16 colors!
The VHF Omnirange (VOR) stations are
still used for air navigation, even though their use is being
replaced by GPS. The VORs form a network of 'aerial highways'.
you can use Topo USA's drawing feature to extend radial and
distance lines from VOR stations. The line property will give the
bearing and distance. VOR radials are specified in magnetic
bearings and nautical miles, so be sure the units are set
correctly.
