What's YOUR college job like?

“The project goals were to characterize and control an electronic switch. What made it so interesting was that the switch was a micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) switch. MEMS devices are so small that you need a microscope to see them. When things get this small, special tools such as lasers are required to measure movement.

“The switch I was working with was actuated by an electrostatic force, which introduced difficulties such as nonlinear behavior and instability. Finding ways to deal with these issues made the research quite interesting and challenging.

“My research project was facilitated through the student internship program at Sandia National Labs.

Jonathan, a 2002 graduate of Temple Baptist Academy, enjoys playing video games with friends, playing guitar, and designing computer graphics in his spare time.
