Francisco Avila

Senior majoring in Mathematics and Materials Engineering

What's YOUR college job like?

I'm part of a team using molecular dynamics simulations to study the glass transition of polymers. Polymers have a wide range of applications and the glass transition is surrounded by controversy which makes it an interesting research topic. Our team is headed by Dr. John McCoy of the Materials Engineering Department. Funding for the research comes from DOE through Sandia National Laboratories.

Francisco is a 2002 graduate of Hobbs High School in Hobbs, N.M. In his spare time, he enjoys running, reading, drumming, and watching movies. After graduation, he's interested in going abroad for research and teaching.
