N.M. Bureau of Geology Publishes Non-Technical Booklets

by George Zamora

SOCORRO, N.M., June 28, 2001 -- The New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (NMBGMR) recently published the first booklet in a new non-technical series of publications which are designed to provide New Mexicans with informative overviews of the state's water, landscapes, and Earth resources.

"Information Series 1 Our Water Resources: An Overview for New Mexicans", by William J. Stone, a noted New Mexico hydrogeologist, provides a succinct, yet comprehensive, survey of the state's available groundwater and surface water resources. The 38-page booklet answers such common questions as: "Where does our water come from?," "How do contaminants get into our drinking water?," and "What information is available on water resources in my area, and where do I go to get it?"

"Information Series 1 Our Water Resources: An Overview for New Mexicans" is available for $5, plus $2.50 for shipping and handling, from the NMBGMR. For more information about the booklet or any other NMBGMR publications, write to the Bureau Publications Office, New Mexico Tech, 801 Leroy Place, Socorro, NM 87801, or call (505) 835-5410, or visit the website at
