The New Mexico Science and Engineering Fair develops and administers the premier science and engineering competition for New Mexico students in grades six through twelve, with the intent to improve the quality of science education, increase student interest in science, and improve student performance in science education. This is accomplished by  involving six regional science and engineering fairs across the State of New Mexico and over three thousand students in science fair programs, various student and teacher workshops, and in recognition for excellence in science. NMSEF is the culmination of a year of investigation by the students, followed by competing in local and regional science fairs. Approximately five hundred students (400 projects) will be invited to compete in the NMSEF from the six regional science and engineering fairs.

Students are recognized for their excellence in project development, investigation, and analysis and discussion of results. The science fair experience lends to learning much more than current science and engineering. Students learn and practice problem solving skills, development and consideration of alternatives, and consequences of action. These are life skills that the students will utilize for many years to come.

There are several ways in which an individual or a group can demonstrate support of and appreciation for excellence in science exhibited by New Mexico's young scientists.

  • Category Sponsorship- Sponsoring a category is a very special way in which an individual or group can demonstrate support of and appreciation for excellence in science exhibited by New Mexico's young scientists. With a contribution of  $275 or more, the benefactors requested name will be displayed in the exhibit hall and in the Awards Program. In addition, the benefactor will be recognized during the Awards Ceremony. Contributions are used to provide monetary awards for category winners.  If you, or your company would like to become a Special Awards Donor, please fill out and return the Category Sponsorship Form.

  • Special Awards- In addition to the category awards presented, student competitors are eligible to receive a large number of awards each year provided by Special Award Donors. These donors come from a variety of agencies, organizations, branches of the armed forces, colleges, and university. Awards may include scholarships, savings bonds, merchandise, plaques, and certificates.  If you, or your company would like to become a Special Awards Donor, please fill out and return the Special Award Donor Form.

  • Serving as a Judge- Professional scientists, mathematicians and engineers are invited to serve as judges during the competition. This is an exciting opportunity to share your expertise and encourage young researchers to pursue scientific and engineering endeavors.
