Project Descriptions

Today’s scientific problems often cross the boundaries of the traditional science disciplines. For example, the rapidly growing field of biotechnology is a combination of biology, chemistry, chemical engineering, and medicine. Similarly, environmental science is a combination of geology or Earth sciences, biology, chemistry, and environmental engineering.

The goal of New Mexico Tech's Interdisciplinary Science for the Environment program is to conduct environmental research in teams of faculty and students from a range of science disciplines. 12 undergraduate students and 15 New Mexico Tech faculty are divided into 8 research research project teams, with students and faculty from multiple disciplines in each team.

Descriptions of the 8 projects are available by clicking on the links at the left. Applicants to the REU program should examine each project, as they will be asked to rank the projects in order of preference on their application.
