Life After Tech... What Directions?

Career planning is an important part of your educational experience.

It may help to know where our Chemical Engineers have started recently. Over the past 10 years, here is the distribution of initial tracks which B.S. Chemical Engineers from New Mexico Tech have taken following graduation:

38% Graduate School (33% PhD and 67% MS tracks)

18% National Labs (Sandia, LANL, and other Military Research Facilities)

16% Semiconductor manufacturing (Intel, Philips)

10% Oil and Gas Production (Phillips, Schlumberger)

8% Major Chemical Companies (BP, Dow, DuPont)

7% Pharmacueticals and Drug Manufacturing

3% Professional Tracks: Business / Medicine

To start your own planning, talk to your advisor early about areas which interest you. Be sure to visit the Career Services Office at the Fidel Center to find out how you can get on the interview lists for permanent employment and internship/CO-OP opportunities.
