| Getting Good Advice Advisors serve two key roles: 1) helping you navigate the curriculum and 2) helping you get the most from your experience here at NMTech. In addition to these broader goals, advisors should help you with gaining summer internships, jobs on campus, scholarships, etc. All of this aimed at making sure that you are doing what you enjoy in your next steps in life... graduate school? what field of work? You will need to see your advisor to get his approval prior to registering for classes each semester. However, this usually is a busy time for advising and there is usually not very much time for the other more important business involved with a good advising relationship. Make the point of meeting with your advisor at least one other time during the semester. Plan to talk about what you want to do, career interests, opportunities, or how school is going in general. A good advisor will be able to amplify the discussion and provide for good feedback on your directions. Each advisor is different in terms of scheduling such discussions... but don't be afraid to knock on their door and ask "Do you have a couple of minutes to talk?"
