| This program, sponsored by the National Institute of Health, assists
minority students to obtain the skills and experience needed to
be successful in a Ph.D. program. The program is broadly targeted
at biomedical research and includes majors in biology, chemistry,
engineering, physics and math.
Students sponsored by the program receive tuition and a stipend
for each calendar year (not academic year). This financial support
along with academic preparation and research experience greatly
improves the chances of success in a Ph.D. program for eligible
students.
There are four universities in the current consortium, New Mexico
Tech, the University of New Mexico, Highlands University and Eastern
(ENMU).
Currently New Mexico Tech has four students in the program, three
Hispanic and one Native American. These students study and do research
at New Mexico Tech, where they will earn their MS degrees. The Bridges
program will allow these students more time and opportunity to get
the research experience they will need to be successful in a Ph.
D. program. |
